Case Study: Green Loan Supporting Ecosystem Restoration in Sen Monorom

December 23, 2025

This case study highlights how green financing from FHF CAPITAL PLC has supported sustainable agriculture and ecosystem restoration at SMR Organic Farm in Sen Monorom.

Mr. Chea Takihiro, founder and manager of SMR Organic Farm, lives and works in a mountainous area of Mondulkiri, approximately 700 meters above sea level. With an academic background in international relations and formal training in natural farming supported by CEDAC in 2016, he made a life-changing decision to leave his journalism career and pursue organic agriculture.

The Challenge

One of the farm’s biggest challenges was water scarcity. Water sources were located nearly 200 meters below the farm, requiring powerful fuel-based pumps that were costly to operate, fuel-intensive, and frequently damaged. These constraints limited agricultural productivity and daily living conditions.

The Solution

To address this, Mr. Takihiro sought financing through WASH and Green Loan products offered by FHF CAPITAL. The loan enabled him to:

  • Excavate 2–3 water ponds for step-by-step water storage
  • Install a water pumping and storage system to a final tank on higher ground
  • Ensure sufficient water supply across the farm
  • Construct a sanitation facility for household use

With reliable water access, the farm’s local ecosystem began to recover, benefiting crops, the environment, and surrounding communities.

Why FHF CAPITAL

Mr. Takihiro chose FHF CAPITAL due to its simple loan process, reasonable interest rates, flexible repayment terms, and no collateral requirement. He also appreciated the professional guidance provided by credit officers and expressed strong support for an institution founded and led by young Cambodians.

“In difficult situations, access to responsible financial support is critical. Borrowers should clearly understand their needs and repayment capacity, and always choose officially registered financial institutions to avoid future risks,” he shared.

Impact

This green loan demonstrates how responsible finance can directly support sustainable farming, water security, and ecosystem restoration. Through its Green and WASH loan products, FHF CAPITAL continues to empower clients to improve livelihoods while contributing to long-term environmental sustainability in Cambodia.
